ST. LOUIS, MO – September 5, 2026 (STL.News) A historic downtown St. Louis hotel that has been closed for more than two years is preparing to welcome guests again, adding another operating hotel to the city’s central business district.
Le Méridien St. Louis Downtown, located at 1019 Pine Street, is scheduled to reopen Tuesday, Sept. 8, according to reports published Friday. The reopening follows an extended closure that began after significant water damage forced the property to shut down in early 2024.
The hotel’s return is notable for downtown St. Louis, where business leaders and city officials continue working to strengthen tourism, hospitality, residential development, and street-level activity.
Marriott’s current property information lists Le Méridien St. Louis Downtown at 1019 Pine Street and shows the hotel offering guest rooms, meeting facilities, a fitness center, valet parking, room service and other amenities.
Hotel closed after sprinkler pipe burst
The hotel’s lengthy closure dates back to January 2024, when a burst sprinkler pipe caused flooding and damaged portions of the property, including its lobby and lower-level areas.
What initially seemed like a temporary interruption ultimately became a closure lasting more than two years. Reopening plans shifted multiple times as work continued at the property.
By June 2026, the hotel was targeting an early August reopening, according to the St. Louis Business Journal. That timetable was later pushed back, and the hotel now plans to reopen Sept. 8.
The prolonged closure illustrates how disruptive major water damage can be for a full-service hotel. Beyond repairing the immediate source of flooding, hotel operators can face extensive work involving flooring, walls, electrical and mechanical systems, furnishings and other building components before rooms and public spaces can safely return to service.
For Le Méridien St. Louis Downtown, the result was an unusually long absence from the downtown hospitality market.
Historic downtown property returns to service
The reopening also brings renewed activity to a historic building in the downtown core.
The property was formerly known as the Hotel Majestic, and the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, according to previous reporting on the hotel’s renovation and reopening plans.
Its location at Pine Street places the hotel within the downtown business and tourism district and near several major St. Louis destinations.
Marriott identifies the Gateway Arch, Busch Stadium, and the St. Louis Convention Center among attractions accessible from the property. Marriott also says the hotel is about 13.4 miles from St. Louis Lambert International Airport.
That location allows the hotel to serve several categories of visitors, including business travelers, convention attendees, sports fans, and tourists visiting downtown attractions.
The hotel’s return therefore represents more than the reopening of individual guest rooms. An operating downtown hotel can generate activity for nearby restaurants, bars, entertainment venues, transportation providers and other businesses that depend partly on visitor spending.
New restaurant planned for the hotel
The reopening will also eventually add another dining option downtown.
The St. Louis Business Journal reported that the hotel plans to open a new restaurant, Pine Street Social Kitchen & Wine, later in September.
The restaurant component could become particularly important to the property’s connection with the surrounding downtown neighborhood. Hotel restaurants can serve not only overnight guests but also downtown workers, residents, convention visitors, and people attending sporting or entertainment events.
Marriott’s online information currently lists Le Scoop by Le Méridien among the hotel’s on-property dining offerings and indicates that breakfast and room service are available.
The addition of Pine Street Social Kitchen & Wine later this month would further expand the food-and-beverage operation as the property works to reestablish itself following its extended shutdown.
Hotel offers meetings and events
Le Méridien St. Louis Downtown is also positioned to participate in the city’s meeting and event business.
Marriott currently lists two event rooms at the property, with its largest configuration, Salon A & B, accommodating up to 100 people. The hotel also advertises wedding services and business services.
Those facilities provide another potential source of downtown traffic beyond overnight stays.
Meetings, weddings, corporate events, and smaller gatherings can generate additional hotel spending while bringing visitors into surrounding businesses.
The hotel’s official Marriott listing also shows a staffed front desk, complimentary fitness center, Wi-Fi for Marriott Bonvoy members who book directly, and valet parking. The property is smoke-free and allows qualifying pets subject to its policies and fees.
Reopening comes at an important time for downtown
Le Méridien’s return comes as downtown St. Louis continues navigating a complicated recovery and redevelopment period.
Downtown has major assets that continue attracting visitors, including the Gateway Arch, Busch Stadium, Enterprise Center, America’s Center Convention Complex, and numerous restaurants and entertainment destinations.
At the same time, the central business district has faced challenges involving vacant office space, underused buildings, and changing patterns of employment and foot traffic.
Hotels play an important role in that environment because they bring a rotating population of visitors who may spend money throughout the surrounding area.
Every hotel that returns to full operation adds rooms that can accommodate tourists, convention attendees, and business travelers while also supporting employment within the hospitality industry.
For the immediate Pine Street area, reopening a property that has been dark for more than two years also restores activity to a building that otherwise has not fully contributed to downtown’s visitor economy.
More than two years of delays end Tuesday
The reopening represents the culmination of a lengthy recovery process.
The hotel had been aiming for earlier reopening dates during the past year. Reporting in November 2025 indicated that renovation work was underway with hopes of reopening the following spring. By June, the target had shifted to early August.
Now, barring another last-minute change, guests are expected to return Tuesday.
Marriott’s official website is currently presenting the property as an active Le Méridien hotel and provides information about accommodations, dining, meetings and reservations.
The reopening restores a recognizable hospitality property to the downtown St. Louis market while returning a historic building to active commercial use.
