The United States has filed a civil fraud lawsuit in the United States Court of International Trade against importer Uni-Tile & Marble Inc., and its chief executive officer, Xin Mian Pan, jointly and severally, to recover $67.9 million in unpaid customs duties on merchandise imported from the People’s Republic of China (China). The government also seeks $222.5 million in fraud penalties from the defendants.“This filing reflects the Justice Department’s unwavering commitment to enforcing the nation’s trade laws and holding accountable those who attempt to evade them,” said Assistant Attorney General Brett A. Shumate of the Justice Department’s Civil Division.
