ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO – September 1, 2026 (STL.News) St. Louis County Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting Tuesday morning in unincorporated west St. Louis County that left a man hospitalized with injuries authorities said were not life-threatening.
The shooting occurred in the 300 block of Weidman Road near Manchester Road, according to information released by the St. Louis County Police Department and provided to local media.
Police said no officers were injured during the encounter. The man who was shot was transported to an area hospital for treatment and was reported to have non-life-threatening injuries. Police had not released his identity as of Tuesday morning.
The circumstances that led to the officer firing a weapon remain under investigation.
A St. Louis County Police spokesperson at the scene told First Alert 4 that a man had “flourished a gun” during the incident. Police also said there was no continuing threat to the public following the shooting.
Authorities had not disclosed whether the man fired the weapon, pointed it at an officer or another person, or what happened immediately before the officer opened fire.

Spectrum News reported that the footage included body-worn and dash-camera views and showed officers giving commands before shots were fired.
That investigation is separate from the Weidman Road case, and there is no indication that the circumstances are comparable. It nevertheless demonstrates why early accounts of police shootings can change or become substantially more detailed once recordings and other evidence are examined.
The department has also previously released information identifying officers’ ages and years of law enforcement experience as investigations progressed. In an April 2026 officer-involved shooting investigation in Wildwood, for example, police later disclosed information about the officer involved and released a critical-incident briefing.
Whether and when similar information will be released regarding Tuesday’s shooting had not been announced.
Questions remain after Tuesday morning shooting
Among the most important unanswered questions is what prompted the encounter on Weidman Road in the first place.
Investigators will also have to establish precisely what authorities meant when they said the man “flourished a gun.”
That description alone does not establish whether the weapon was pointed at an officer, whether the man attempted to fire it or whether any shots were fired by anyone other than police.

Police also had not publicly announced whether the weapon referenced by the spokesperson was recovered.
